A veil of lotus flowers covers apartments in former office building
The former office building built in 1990 has been transformed in to a sustainable residential building. It consists of 22 apartments, varying from 70m² to 110m². The building has an A+ energy label.
The residential building has a unique and contemporary appearance, because of the new facade. Furthermore, it is connected to the environment and the history of Zoetermeer. The facade consists of aluminium cladding. Each plate exists of a texture of lotus flowers, in Dutch “Meerbloemen”, which is the symbol of Zoetermeer. The composition of folded figures creates a contrast between light and shadow and a light and softened appearance. In addition, the façade provides both transparency and privacy to the outdoor spaces of each apartment. The unique façade cladding was developed in collaboration with Metadecor.
Previously, it was an anonymous office building on a parking lot in a post-war urban environment. After the transformation, it is a unique residential building, visible from the environment and integrated in the city centre of Zoetermeer
