Lodging in cultural heritage Wieringen
Knevel Architecten designs Hotel Waddenpoort in Den Oever, a starting point to explore the environment. The restaurant on the top floor has a panoramic view over different parts of this environment, namely de Afsluitdijk, the Dutch Wadden Sea (UNESCO World Heritage) and cultural heritage landscape Wieringen.
The building is a landmark for its environment, integrated into the landscape. The structure and materials used for the building are inspired by the traditional wooden sheds of Wieringen.
The hotel offers a full range of facilities to accommodate a wide variety of visitors. It exists of 100 hotel rooms, a gym, a lounge integrated in the lobby, meeting rooms, dining-room and a restaurant.
The ambition is to create a sustainable, modular and circular building. Modular units are an essential element. Their flexibility allows different functions to meet the needs of visitors. For example, meeting rooms can be transformed to hotel rooms if the demand for accommodation increases.
