design
Because of the monumental status of the property and the influence of an new interior, the idea rised to offset the functions which has its own specific character, from the monumental facade.

assignment
The commission concerns an interior of a bath and bedroom island within a room of a villa.
location
The white villa, which has a monumental status, is located in the dunes of Santpoort. Each room of the house has its own function with its own atmosphere. The program only consists of a combination of a bath and bedroom within one room of the villa.

The design projects two independent micro islands within one room, a bath island and a bedroom island. By creating two furnished objects, the space can be used in a multiple and flexible way. Various facilities are housed in the islands, such as a seperate toilet, a storage room, closet and an integrated projector and screen above the bed.
A balanced ventilation system with heat recovery is integrated in the islands. The exhaust air vents are positioned in the bathroom and heated indoor air passed through a heat recovery unit before being expelled and is used to heat the incoming outdoor air in the bed island. Both islands have their own identity. The materialisation is based on the function of each island. The bath island is completely tiled and expresses a very glossy spa. Contrary to this glossyness, the bed island is more opaque and suitable for rest and relaxation.
