HEALTH CARE CENTER AND HOUSING
urban development in Vuren
location
The location is situated on the west side of Vuren, between existing buildings from the ‘50s and a new built village expansion. Spatially seen, the location connects to the surrounded environment without transitions. An exception on this connection is the “Poldersekade” which is a curved old avenue with a double tree row. In the urban design there has been chosen to emphasise the spatial boundary between the location and the double tree row. The apartment blocks will anticipate on the historical green structure of the Poldersekade. While the dwellings will comply to the structure of the surrounding buildings.
The center of the plan is formed by a park, lined by senior housing. On the south side, luxury houses and apartments of various sizes are placed along the avenue. The health care center is situated on a square on the north side of the location and is part of the curved buildings along the Poldersekade. The health care center is oriented on the square which is both spatially and functionally a part of the adjacent neighbourhood. The upper- and adjacent apartments have an open character with loggias which guarantee a special view on the avenue.

assignment
The assignment concerns the design of 47 dwellings in combination with a health care center in Vuren, the Netherlands. Vuren is a village near Leerdam situated along the river “de Waal”. The program involves a combination of both dwellings, stacked apartments and a health care center.

design
The design is inspired by the morphology of the surrounded buildings from the ‘50s and the ‘60s. This means in particular that the modest form and material is continued in the design of the dwellings and the apartment blocks.
