location
The office building is situated in a prime location on the Singel in the centre of Amsterdam. The building was originally designed for a specific tenant: the Dutch-Indian Commercial Bank. The expansions carried out in 1925 and 1952 were also designed for a bank. During the eighties, the building was converted into a multi-tenant office building.

commission
The building is owned by AIK, a property investment company for pension funds with its head office in Germany. AIK offers clients tailor-made property investment solutions.
In order to make the building more attractive to new tenants, Knevel Architecten was asked to submit proposals for revitalising the interior. The 1st phase involved renovating the main entrance on the Singel. The 2nd phase consisted of adjustments to the 3rd floor. During the finishing works to the 3rd floor, the whole building (approximately 8200 m²) was relet. The works commissioned included design works, technical development and project management.
design
The monumental character of the entrance hall was restored using limited resources. The original marble walls and floors were cleaned and new doors with a brass finish and linear perforated brass lighting elements designed by Knevel Architecten were fitted as part of a general lighting plan. In addition, the existing lobby area in the hall was adapted, the interior of the lift cages and the outsides of the lift doors were renovated and a new access control system and signs were installed.
As a result, the main entrance on the Singel has been transformed into a lobby that is more in keeping with the times and the grandeur of the building.
