There are currently two fairly small fish restaurants in the port area in Den Oever. There is also a lack of good hotels or accommodation providers in this area. A recognisable and easily accessible hotel/restaurant with good parking facilities and an attractive/unique outlook will be a useful addition to the offering for the Kop van Noord-Holland for visitors and tourism.
design
The new Hotel, Information Centre and Panoramic Restaurant form part of the transferium that will be the starting point of the recreational network around Den Oever. The building will fulfil a dual function, providing not only the functions offered but also serving as a landmark. The position of the building coincides with the point where the lines of sight from the A7 and Afsluitdijk intersect and lies on the (imaginary) N99-Afsluitdijk axis.
The building is to be subdivided into a number of stacked elements and platforms. Firstly, there is the base of the tower. This base is connected to the recreational transferium at ground level and fits in with the current image quality plan. In this base, there is space for an information centre and it also provides access to the Hotel and Panoramic Restaurant. The second element is the Hotel which will have approximately 45 rooms. The third element is the Panoramic Restaurant. The restaurant will look out onto the Wadden Sea – a World Heritage Site – and on a clear day, it will provide views of the Wadden Islands, the Afsluitdijk, the IJsselmeer or Markermeer and the Kop van Noord-Holland. The height of the restaurant will be approximately 20 to 25 metres in order to provide a wonderful view of the above-mentioned elements. The restaurant is also to become a beacon or landmark for the traffic travelling on the A7 from the direction of both North Holland and Friesland.

location
In many respects, Den Oever is an important hub for the Netherlands. The historic fishing port with its fish market is one of the biggest ports for importing prawns in Europe. The fresh fish market that is held every Saturday morning attracts not only visitors/buyers from North Holland but also tourists from the Netherlands and abroad. Den Oever lies on the busy A7 that goes from Amsterdam to Friesland, Groningen, Germany and Scandinavia On average, just under 20,000 motor vehicles use the A7 motorway every day.
