There has been a huge amount of housing construction in the Netherlands over the past 20 years during which the number of new homes went up to 90,000 per annum. Private commissioning in the Netherlands remains relatively low compared to its neighbours such as Germany where self-build projects account for 30% of the housing built and Belgium where no less than 70% of new houses are self-built. Although the culture of private commissioning is therefore not as strong in the Netherlands, we want to start involving residents more in the building process.
What key questions should we ask in order to define the main starting points for a contemporary housing concept? Van Wijnen Vastgoed approached Knevel Architecten and asked the company to draw up a vision for a new housing concept.
Knevel Architecten formulated a housing concept with a toolbox that proposes affordable housing where residents can design their own home and adapt it to suit their lifestyle at the same time. Ingenuity and health are one of the underlying themes in this.
