design
From the given program - including movie theatres, a bowling alley and indoor arcade hall - a combination of large and small entertainment modules working on the level of the consumer but at the same time creating an atmosphere where pleasure and meeting will logically follow from the layout of the new building: the Leisure center Zaltbommel.
The architectural design is based on a couple of functional and client orientated aspects namely, reception, lodging and relaxation.

The route through the building is based on a model of entering, elevating and looking around. The spatial model of the building is meant to offer the customer a smooth vertical transition through the building where for instance the roof level as the main entrance of building will be passed with the same kind of ease.
The program is organized in such a way that the dynamic functions located round the building will be visible from the highway. The alternating pattern of untransparant and perforated paneling of the facade establishes a controlled kind of openness, depending on the program, views and orientation.

location
The location lies north from the train station at the Oude Stationsweg, exactly located between the A2 highway and the railway of Zaltbommel.
assignmentThe assignment concerns a Leisure Center on the Spoorveste location; between the A2 highway and the railway of Zaltbommel. Following the initiative the brief consisted of a combination of entertainment and hotel and catering industry for the inhabitants of Zaltbommel, allthough it is mainly focussed on visitors coming from outside town.
The layout of the plan mainly is focussed on implementing the brief strategicly into the urban setting. In the process a considerable step is made in transforming the whole surrounding area into a dynamic 'leisurecluster' in Zaltbommel. And furthermore this new impuls will stimulate development of Spoorveste and job creation for the Municipality of Zaltbommel.
